Sickle Cell

Part of the Health Conditions Series, Sickle Cell transforms the pain, endurance, and often-invisible realities of living with the condition into a symbolic celestial artwork. A deep red crescent moon rests within a golden arch, surrounded by blood-like droplets, thorned vines, crimson spider lilies, and a sky layered in shades of red and rose.

The phrase “Marked by the Moon” refers to the crescent or sickle-like shape that red blood cells can take with sickle cell anemia. The celestial imagery turns that defining feature into the center of the artwork while honoring the strength required to live with recurring pain, fatigue, uncertainty, and medical challenges.

The 60 × 75 cm artwork is hybrid-charted for square drills, combining thoughtful hand-charting with digital refinement to create cleaner details, smoother color transitions, and a more enjoyable rendering experience.
